Enjoy a Night at the Cinema in Your Own Backyard

Now that we’re in the heat of summer, you may be looking for new and exciting ways to embrace the summertime with your family and friends. If you love to sit back, relax and watch movies, consider adding a twist to that script by hosting a movie night in your own backyard. Take a look at how you can spend a summer night with the stars (both the twinkling ones and the celebrity ones)!

Set the Scene

First, an outdoor movie night will require some equipment. You’ll need a projector that can display a film from your media device as well as the right cords and extension cords to hook it up. For your movie screen, you can project the film onto the side of your house or garage as long as it is light colored and not textured. Other options include hanging up a white bedsheet or a large white blackout cloth in your backyard to use, or purchasing a projector screen.

Stick to the Classics for Snacks

For any gathering with guests, you’ll always want to have snacks available! Set up a table near your movie-viewing area and provide finger foods and the classic movie-watching snacks, such as popcorn and candy. Take the movie-watching experience up a notch by having a build-your-own-popcorn bar, with an assortment of popcorn toppings, such as caramel or chocolate sauce, cinnamon, garlic powder, parmesan, sprinkles, gummies or chocolate candies. If you have a fire pit, s’mores would also make a great addition.

Add Special Effects

Keep cozy by offering moviegoers blankets and pillows, as well as comfortable folding chairs and patio furniture. Hang up some twinkling lights or set up tiki torches in your backyard to serve as décor and as an ambient light source. Also, be sure to put out citronella candles to repel pesky mosquitoes.

you’re ready for a summer night to remember! The next great adventure – whether it be an action-packed thriller, an out-of-this world fantasy or a rollicking comedy – awaits in your own backyard.
