Boy Scouts' Sam Houston Area Council Receives $25,000 Contribution In Honor Of David Weekley
by David Weekley Homes
David Weekley, chairman of Houston-based David Weekley Homes, was named one of three winners of the Hearthstone Builder Lifetime Public Service Award for his dedication to and support of the Boy Scouts. As a result, the sponsors of this philanthropic award will donate $25,000 to the Boy Scouts' Sam Houston Area Council in honor of David Weekley.
Weekley has been involved with the organization for most of his life - as an Eagle Scout, Boy Scout volunteer and board member - and is keeping true to the Boy Scout oath by helping others. Thanks in part to his strategic thinking and planning, Weekley aided the Boy Scouts' Sam Houston Area Council in capturing more than $20 million dollars in funding, which will assist in financing the construction of the Council's first new camp in 50 years. The camp will serve as an opportunity for at-risk youth to participate in scouting.
"The Boy Scouts has always held a special place in my heart and I am proud to have the opportunity to support their efforts and give back to the community," said Weekley. "As a businessman, I truly enjoy utilizing my skills and abilities to help further this worthy cause."
The Hearthstone Builder Lifetime Public Service Award, a $1 million five-year program, was created in an effort to recognize builders and developers for their involvement with charities.
