David Weekley Homes and BuildAid Honored by City of Houston
Houston, TX (March 21, 2019): David Weekley Homes and BuildAid celebrated the recent recognition of March 19 as Build Aid Day from the city of Houston. Mayor Sylvester Turner and City Council members presented the proclamation to the nonprofit organization in recognition of the work done for Houston-area homeowners affected by Hurricane Harvey.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from the City of Houston,” said Chris Yuko, program director of BuildAid. “It’s a privilege to help these families get their lives back by returning to their homes and to also preserve these communities.”
BuildAid Houston, a nonprofit initiative of HomeAid Houston and the Greater Houston Builders Association, was created in December 2017 with a $1 million commitment from The David Weekley Family Foundation. Through this partnership, local home builders work with the nonprofit organization to significantly reduce the price of rebuilding by offering materials and contractors at cost to homeowners.
BuildAid was the recipient of a $5.5 million grant from the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, which was established by Houston’s Mayor Turner and Harris County Judge Emmett. These funds play a critical role in BuildAid’s effort to rebuild homes across Houston. To date, BuildAid has repaired 90 homes, with David Weekley Homes serving as the builder partner on many of those homes.
“I feel blessed to be involved with BuildAid because it gives me another opportunity to help those in need,” said Randy Rowlett, special project manager with David Weekley Homes. “Every family has a different story and set of circumstances, but the most rewarding part is always welcoming a family back home.”
BuildAid, an initiative that was started during the early aftermath of Hurricane Harvey by The David Weekley Foundation, provides full home repair services to homeowners across the Houston area who experienced flooding due to Hurricane Harvey. Homeowners who have met the pre-qualification requirements will be matched with experienced builder members of the GHBA who will walk them through a finish selection process.
