David Weekley Homes Collects Supplies to Benefit USO Central Florida Troops
Orlando, FL (February 22, 2018): For the fourth year in a row, David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, was proud to collect a variety of items to stock the United Service Organizations (USO) Welcome Center inside Orlando International Airport.
As part of the company’s philanthropic efforts through its CARE program, the Orlando Division partnered with homeowners, real estate agents and developer partners to collect more than 5,000 items, including granola and protein bars, individually packaged snacks, bottled water, coloring books and crayons, gift cards to restaurants and stores and more.
“I am truly impressed by the generosity of all those who participated,” said Danielle Doyal, warranty coordinator for David Weekley Homes. “We love coming together as a Team to show how much we CARE and appreciate all that our troops do for us on a daily basis.”
In addition to the collection drive, The David Weekley Family Foundation donated one year’s worth of supplies totaling $2,750, including printer paper, ink and postage stamps, for the USO Welcome Center. The center, which opened in 2016, provides a living room with TVs, a children’s space, game station and free food and drinks for U.S. service men and women and their families to rest while traveling in the Orlando area. The center receives on average more than 60 guests every day.
“We can’t thank David Weekley Homes enough for the very generous donation,” said Debbie Keller, acting center operations supervisor for USO Central Florida. “Our military members will benefit from it for quite some time as we serve them in our center.”
The drive is an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in all the communities in which it builds. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations throughout the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years
