David Weekley Homes Collects Thousands of Meals, Donations During Annual Food Drive

Atlanta, GA (December 12, 2019): More than 700 people locally – and 60,000 nationwide – walked away from the Thanksgiving table with a full belly and a happy heart this year, thanks to the partnership of David Weekley Homes and 18 charities across the U.S. In Atlanta, David Weekley Homes teamed up with MUST Ministries for the third year, a nonprofit organization that partners with agencies across four counties to feed 250 individuals and families each week. David Weekley team members provided the collected items to MUST Ministries to distribute to families in time for the holiday.

“MUST Ministries is again blessed to have such reliable and caring partners as David Weekley Homes,” said Don Crampton, community outreach coordinator with MUST Ministries. “The items collected will feed 179 families that may not have had the opportunity to do so without this loving devotion and donations to our ministry.”

From November 1-15, David Weekley Homes hosted its fifth annual companywide Thanksgiving Drive, bringing together its homeowners, real estate agents, vendors, trade partners and team members to collect 150,000 pounds of food for nearly 60,000 people across the country.

“MUST Ministries does a fabulous job of helping the less fortunate and marginalized in our community with meals and housing and job placement,” said Bob Poole, lead builder with David Weekley Homes in Atlanta.

MUST Ministries serves the greater Atlanta-metro area by providing canned goods, fresh and frozen food and nonperishable items to Cobb and Cherokee County residents in need through the 30 MUST and MUST Save it Forward food pantries. In addition, MUST operates the Loaves and Fishes Community Kitchen which feeds about 1000 hungry men, women and children a daily lunch as well as breakfast and dinner to the 72 residents at the Elizabeth Inn.

To assist MUST Ministries this year, David Weekley Homes collected approximately 1,600 pounds of nonperishable food items, 179 frozen turkeys and more than $800 in monetary donations during the two-week drive. In addition, The David Weekley Family Foundation donated $7,700 to the organization to purchase refrigerators and freezers for The MUST housing campus. The Thanksgiving Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which allows the extended David Weekley Homes family to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.

“Our CARE program means giving back to our community the time and talents and treasures we have been blessed with,” said Mac Calhoun, a builder with David Weekley Homes.
