David Weekley Homes Collects Thousands of Meals, Donations During Annual Food Drive

Dallas, TX (December 12, 2019): Nearly 5,100 people locally – and 60,000 nationwide – in need received a hearty meal to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday through the partnership of David Weekley Homes and 18 charities across the U.S. In Dallas, Weekley joined with the Community Food Bank, a nonprofit organization that has served North Texas for more than 30 years, to provide meals to needy families.

“It takes a collaborative effort from our conscientious North Texas community to meet the growing demand of hungry families in need,” said Rudy Taylor, chief operations officer of the Community Food Bank. “David Weekley Homes was the first to respond to the pressing needs of the Community Food Bank in serving those families during Thanksgiving. Their substantial donations made up 35 percent of our turkey and 20 percent of our canned goods donations, which helped enable us to provide families with a nutritious Thanksgiving turkey box, including all the trimmings.”

From November 1 – 15, David Weekley Homes hosted its fifth annual companywide Thanksgiving Drive, bringing together its homeowners, real estate agents, vendors, trade partners and team members to collect 150,000 pounds of food for nearly 60,000 people across the country.

“When I drove up to the food bank and saw the line of people waiting, it made me realize how much food was truly needed,” said Shannon Brown, sales consultant with David Weekley Homes in Dallas. “It was very humbling to be a part of the group that was helping to bring joy to all of these families during the holiday.”

The Community Food Bank serves North Texas by providing food, education, programs and resources to hungry families. The organization provides food directly to those in need and to hunger relief charities.

To assist the Community Food Bank this year, David Weekley Homes collected approximately 7,580 pounds of nonperishable food items and $300 in monetary donations during the two-week drive. The Thanksgiving Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which allows the extended David Weekley Homes family to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.

“My favorite part of working with the Community Food Bank is that they quickly hand the turkeys out to local residents who really need it,” said Neville Crowell, sales consultant with David Weekley Homes in Dallas. “Every year they offer a Thanksgiving meal to 5,000 families in need so our donations really go a long way.”
