David Weekley Homes Collects Thousands of Meals, Donations During Annual Food Drive
Denver, CO (December 10, 2019): More than 2,000 people locally – and 60,000 nationwide – walked away from the Thanksgiving table with a full belly and a happy heart this year, thanks to the partnership of David Weekley Homes and 18 charities across the U.S. In Denver, David Weekley Homes teamed up with Denver Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization that helps change the lives of people in the Denver area who are experiencing homelessness or addiction.
“The generosity and time that David Weekley Homes took to collect non-perishable items for us is truly amazing and will help stock our food pantry and Thanksgiving baskets for families in need,” said Nicole Tschetter, PR & Media Specialist with Denver Rescue Mission.
From November 1 – 15, David Weekley Homes hosted its fifth annual companywide Thanksgiving Drive, bringing together its homeowners, real estate agents, vendors, trade partners and team members to collect 150,000 pounds of food for nearly 60,000 people across the country.
“Knowing that we can provide a meal to a person or a family in need is truly impactful,” said Bernadette Garcia, Project Coordinator with David Weekley Homes in Denver. “There are so many people without food and the Denver Rescue Mission tries to serve all of the people that ask for assistance.”
Denver Rescue Mission has been serving the most vulnerable in the community for more than 125 years. At multiple locations throughout the area, they help restore the lives of people experiencing homelessness and addiction through emergency services, rehabilitation, transitional programs, and community outreach.
To assist Denver Rescue Mission this year, David Weekley Homes collected approximately 1,100 pounds of nonperishable food items and $2,500 in monetary donations during the two-week drive. The Thanksgiving Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which allows the extended David Weekley Homes family to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
“We enjoy working with the Denver Rescue Mission because they help so many people in need,” Garcia said. “They are able to do so much with the donations they receive.”
