David Weekley Homes Collects Thousands of Meals, Donations During Annual Food Drive     

Jacksonville, FL (December 12, 2019): Nearly 2,200 people locally – and 60,000 nationwide – walked away from the Thanksgiving table with a full belly and a happy heart this year, thanks to the partnership of David Weekley Homes and 18 charities across the U.S. In Jacksonville, David Weekley Homes teamed up with Farm Share, a nonprofit organization that partners with agencies to distribute approximately 40 million pounds of food each year to families in need.

“Because of companies like David Weekley Homes, Farm Share is able to continue to bring food to families who otherwise would not be able to afford it,” said David Livingston, facility assistant at Farm Share.

From November 1-15, David Weekley Homes hosted its fifth annual companywide Thanksgiving Drive, bringing together its homeowners, real estate agents, vendors, trade partners and team members to collect 150,000 pounds of food for nearly 60,000 people across the country.

“The Thanksgiving Drive has become a tradition in our family,” said Teresa Santos, senior sales consultant with David Weekley Homes. “It’s rewarding to teach our son how we can impact our community through our CARE program.”

Farm Share distributes fresh produce and federal food packages throughout Florida. David Weekley team members delivered the collected items directly to the individuals and families as part of Farm Share’s Thanksgiving event.

“Thank you to David Weekley Homes for its support in our massive Thanksgiving giveaway, Livingston said. “We provided families with a turkey, fresh fruit, and everything else to make a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for their household.”

To assist Farm Share this year, David Weekley Homes collected approximately 4,000 pounds of nonperishable food items and more than 30,000 pounds of frozen turkeys during the two-week drive. The Thanksgiving Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which allows the extended David Weekley Homes family to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.

“I received so many hugs and thanks from our recipients as we handed out donations,” said Tamara Cornelius, a builder service representative with David Weekley Homes. “There was one that truly touched my heart – a single mother who had six children and told me she had no food in her cupboards and now they would have food. For this reason, this partnership with Farm Share is all worth it.”
