David Weekley Homes Collects Thousands of Meals, Donations During Annual Food Drive

Minneapolis, MN (December 12, 2019): Nearly 1,440 people locally – and 60,000 nationwide – in need received a hearty meal to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday through the partnership of David Weekley Homes and 18 charities across the U.S. In Minneapolis, Weekley joined with Second Harvest Heartland, a nonprofit organization that has served the Midwest for 18 years to provide meals to needy families.

“We are so grateful for David Weekley Homes’ continued partnership through their annual Thanksgiving drive,” said Anne Laskey, community engagement coordinator with Second Harvest Heartland. “David Weekley Homes helped provide more than 1,000 meals this holiday season and a $3,000 donation made by the David Weekley Family Foundation for technical support will make our new facility the best hunger relief campus it can be.”

From November 1-15, David Weekley Homes hosted its fifth annual companywide Thanksgiving Drive, bringing together its homeowners, real estate agents, vendors, trade partners and team members to collect 150,000 pounds of food for nearly 60,000 people across the country.

“We take for granted the things we are gifted in our lives,” said Matt McCarthy, project manager with David Weekley Homes in Minneapolis. “It is humbling to see how the donations truly help so many people during this tough holiday season.”

Second Harvest Heartland serves Minnesota and western Wisconsin by distributing meals to local food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior community centers and children’s feeding programs.

To assist Second Harvest Heartland this year, David Weekley Homes collected approximately 380 pounds of nonperishable food items and $370 in monetary donations during the two-week drive. The Thanksgiving Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which allows the extended David Weekley Homes family to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.

“It’s nice to see firsthand how we are making an impact in our local community, not just some faraway place,” said Kaela Fahey, design services draftsperson with David Weekley Homes in Minneapolis.
