David Weekley Homes Collects Thousands of Meals, Donations During Annual Food Drive     

San Antonio, TX (December 10, 2019): More than 1,100 people locally – and 60,000 nationwide – walked away from the Thanksgiving table with a full belly and a happy heart this year, thanks to the partnership of David Weekley Homes and 18 charities across the U.S. In San Antonio, David Weekley Homes teamed up with CAM (Christian Assistance Ministry), a nonprofit organization that has served the greater San Antonio area for more than 40 years to provide immediate assistance and encouragement to people in crisis.

“This is CAM’s busiest time of year,” said Dawn White-Fosdick, President of CAM. “Thanks to the generosity of David Weekley Homes, we no longer have to worry about how we are going to serve the masses. Such a huge thank you.”

From November 1 – 15, David Weekley Homes hosted its fifth annual companywide Thanksgiving Drive, bringing together its homeowners, real estate agents, vendors, trade partners and team members to collect 150,000 pounds of food for nearly 60,000 people across the country.

“My favorite part about working with CAM is that it slows us down from our busy schedules and reminds us that even a little bit of our time and assistance can mean so much to someone in need,” said Rebecca Valeriano, visitor engagement specialist with David Weekley Homes.

CAM serves the greater San Antonio area by providing immediate and easily accessible resources to people in need. Clients come to CAM through referrals from local churches, United Way 211 referral line, other local nonprofits, schools and hospitals. Their goal is to meet the most immediate critical need and connect them to community resources that can help with systemic issues.

“One of our mothers shared that when she opened CAM’s bags of groceries from David Weekley Homes, her little boy shouted ‘meat!’” White-Fosdick said. “It was a blessing to receive quality food from David Weekley and it was greatly appreciated!”

To assist CAM this year, David Weekley Homes collected approximately 5,000 pounds of nonperishable food items and $6,000 in monetary donations during the two-week drive. The Thanksgiving Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which allows the extended David Weekley Homes family to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.

“Knowing we can feed the hungry and send food home to families that need a good meal warms my heart,” said Morgan Keogh, senior sales consultant with David Weekley Homes in San Antonio.
