David Weekley Homes Donates Thanksgiving Meals as Part of Holiday Food Drive
Team Members collect more than 500 pounds of food for the holiday
Austin, TX (December 13, 2016): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its second annual, companywide Thanksgiving Drive, collecting an aggregate of 147,000 pounds of turkey and nonperishable items in 20 participating markets. The company’s efforts provided more than 149,000 meals to local families.
Locally, more than 500 pounds of nonperishable items was collected during the two-week drive, which ran from November 2 to 16. Austin team members delivered the items to the organization to distribute to families in time for the holiday.
“I feel very humbled by our homeowners’ enthusiastic response to our Thanksgiving drive,” said Ashley Holsinger, a Sales Consultant with David Weekley Homes. “It further confirms their dedication to stand alongside David Weekley Homes in giving back to the community.”
In Austin, the Thanksgiving Drive benefitted Central Texas Food Bank, an organization that partners with private, government and charitable partners to distribute 31 million meals to the community each year.
“The Food Bank couldn’t do what we do to serve 46,000 Central Texans in need each week without the help of great community partners like David Weekley Homes,” said Mark Jackson, Chief Development Officer of the Central Texas Food Bank. “No one should go hungry, especially during the holidays. And the food gathered in this food drive will help provide hope for the holidays to many of our neighbors in need.”
The Thanksgiving Drive is one of the initiatives of the company’s CARE program that joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of building dreams, enhancing lives in all of the communities in which it builds.
