David Weekley Homes Donates Thanksgiving Meals as Part of Holiday Food Drive
Austin, TX (December 12, 2018): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its fourth annual, companywide Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive, collecting an aggregate of nearly 184,000 pounds of turkey and nonperishable items in 18 participating markets. The company’s efforts provided nearly 311,500 meals to local families.
In Austin, more than 1,900 pounds of nonperishable items were collected during the two-week drive, which ran from November 1 to 15.
“The Thanksgiving Drive each year reminds us just how important giving back is,” said Natalie Lawson, project coordinator for David Weekley Homes in Austin. “When you stop and think of everything you are blessed with and open your heart so that others can enjoy a blessing, that’s what CARE is all about. We all enjoy working and donating our time and canned goods to Central Texas Food Bank.”
Locally, the Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive benefitted Central Texas Food Bank, a nonprofit organization that partners with agencies across 21 counties to feed approximately 46,000 people each week. David Weekley team members provided the collected items to Central Texas Food Bank to distribute to families in time for the holiday. In addition to the nonperishables, The David Weekley Family Foundation also donated $5,000 to support additional assistance programs offered by Central Texas Food Bank.
“The Central Texas Food Bank is so grateful for the generous donation brought in from the David Weekley Homes Thanksgiving Drive,” said Gillian Spangler, events coordinator for Central Texas Food Bank. “The food donated was able to make 1,060 meals to help fill the Thanksgiving tables of Central Texans in need! David Weekley Homes is a valued hunger fighting partner. Thank you for your support!”
The Thanksgiving Drive is an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
