David Weekley Homes Donates Thanksgiving Meals as Part of Holiday Food Drive
Charleston, SC (December 12, 2018): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its fourth annual, companywide Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive, collecting an aggregate of nearly 184,000 pounds of turkey and nonperishable items in 18 participating markets. The company’s efforts provided nearly 311,500 meals to local families.
In Charleston, more than 950 pounds of nonperishable items were collected during the two-week drive, which ran from November 1 to 15.
“I think it’s nice that all the food and money we receive through donations stays in the Lowcounty area and benefits families in our area,” said Sarah Kemp, a division coordinator at David Weekley Homes.
Locally, the Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive benefited Lowcountry Food Bank, a nonprofit organization that partners with agencies across 10 counties to feed approximately 200,000 individuals annually. David Weekley team members provided the collected items to Lowcountry Food Bank to distribute to families in time for the holiday.
"We are extremely grateful to David Weekley Homes for their generous donation,” said Pat Walker, president of the Lowcountry Food Bank. “With this donation, the Lowcountry Food Bank will be able to reach our neighbors in need with nutritious food. We are fortunate to have David Weekley Homes as a partner in our fight against hunger.”
The Thanksgiving Drive is an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
