David Weekley Homes Donates Thanksgiving Meals as Part of Holiday Food Drive

Team Members collect more than 10,000 pounds of food for the holiday

Houston, TX (December 13, 2016): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its second annual, companywide Thanksgiving Drive, collecting an aggregate of 147,000 pounds of turkey and nonperishable items in 20 participating markets. The company’s efforts provided more than 149,000 meals to local families.

Locally, 3,700 pounds of turkey and more than 7,000 pounds of nonperishable items were collected during the two-week drive, which ran from November 2 to 16, with donations from homeowners, vendors and team members. Houston team members donated the items to the organization, which were picked up and distributed to nearly 800 families in time for the holiday. The David Weekley Family Foundation also participated by donating $10,000 to each organization to provide for meals and additional needs of the charities.

“I love being involved with our annual Thanksgiving drive,” said Joshua Schelnick, design development draftsperson with David Weekley Homes. “For such a simple act, you can make an enormous difference.”

In Houston, the Thanksgiving Drive benefitted Montgomery County Women’s Center, Houston Area Women’s Center and Mission of Yahweh. These organizations provide a 24-hour hotline, safe shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy and legal services to survivors of family violence, sexual assault and stalking.

“We are overwhelmed and in awe of the outpouring and support from David Weekley Homes,” said Tonya Frye, marketing and volunteer director with Mission of Yahweh. “The passion of the team members was nothing short of inspiring.”

The Thanksgiving Drive is one of the initiatives of the company’s CARE program that joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of building dreams, enhancing lives in all of the communities in which it builds.

Homeowners, vendors and team members from David Weekley Homes donated more than 10,000 pounds of turkey and nonperishable food items to Montgomery County Women’s Center, Houston Area Women’s Center and Mission of Yahweh to benefit families in need.
