David Weekley Homes Donates Thanksgiving Meals as Part of Holiday Food Drive

Team Members collect more than 26,000 pounds of food for the holiday

Houston, TX (December 14, 2017): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its third annual, companywide Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive, collecting an aggregate of more than 213,000 pounds of turkey and nonperishable items in 18 participating markets. The company’s efforts provided nearly 226,000 meals to local families.

In Houston, more than 26,000 pounds of nonperishable items were collected from more than 500 team members and homeowners during the two-week drive, which ran from November 1 to 15. This donation helped to provide more than 79,000 meals to those in need.

“Helping with the Thanksgiving Drive is always fun and rewarding,” said Jeanne Van Craenenbroek, warranty coordinator with David Weekley Homes. “Seeing the amount of food collected, and knowing how it will benefit those in need, especially after Harvey, fills me with a sense of wonder and amazement at what our team accomplishes together.”

Locally, the Thanksgiving Drive benefitted Houston Food Bank, which is America’s largest food bank, distributing to 600 hunger relief charities in 18 southeast Texas Counties. David Weekley team members delivered the collected items to Houston Food Bank to distribute to families in time for the holiday.

“This food will go toward feeding food insecure citizens throughout Southeast Texas,” said Linda Casey, strategic gifts officer at Houston Food Bank. “We have tripled our production over the past two months, sending some of our most needed items to families over 18 counties across Southeast Texas and this will greatly help.”

The Thanksgiving Drive is an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
