David Weekley Homes Donates Thanksgiving Meals as Part of Holiday Food Drive
Indianapolis, IN (December 13, 2018): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its fourth annual, companywide Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive, collecting an aggregate of more than 184,000 pounds of turkey and nonperishable items in 18 participating markets. The company’s efforts provided nearly 311,500 meals to local families.
In Indianapolis, more than 1,100 pounds of nonperishable items were collected during the two-week drive, which ran from November 1 to 15.
“The food drive is for such a great cause and I appreciate the long relationship David Weekley has shared with Second Helpings,” said Brad Willem, purchasing manager with David Weekley Homes.
Locally, the Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive benefitted Second Helpings, a nonprofit organization that provides nutritious meals for thousands of hungry children and adults in greater Indianapolis. David Weekley team members provided the collected items to Second Helpings to distribute to families in time for the holiday. In addition, The David Weekley Family Foundation donated $10,000 to the nonprofit to purchase a backup generator.
“Second Helpings is thankful for the continued support of David Weekley Homes and their associates,” said Katie Prine, senior director of philanthropy with Second Helpings. “Their support helps us fight hunger and poverty in Central Indiana by providing delicious, nutritious meals to the most vulnerable members of our community.”
The Thanksgiving Drive is an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
