David Weekley Homes Donates Thanksgiving Meals as Part of Holiday Food Drive
Team Members collect more than 18,000 pounds of food for the holiday
Jacksonville, FL (December 13, 2016): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its second annual, companywide Thanksgiving Drive, collecting an aggregate of 147,000 pounds of turkey and nonperishable items in 20 participating markets. The company’s efforts provided more than 149,000 meals to local families.
Locally, more than 16,200 pounds of turkey and 1,900 pounds of nonperishable items were collected during the two-week drive, which ran from November 2 to 16. Jacksonville team members delivered the items to the organization to distribute to families in time for the holiday.
“It’s inspiring to see so many people come together to help others make sure they have a Thanksgiving to remember,” said Shelley Belloit, a Builder Service Representative and CARE Council member with David Weekley Homes.
In Jacksonville, the Thanksgiving Drive benefitted Farm Share, Inc., an organization with a mission to alleviate hunger and malnutrition by recovering and distributing fresh and nutritious food to those in need.
“Farm Share would like to extend a big thank you to David Weekley Homes for the donations that were collected, which is estimated to be more than $23,000,” said Hubert Hodges, Warehouse Manager at Farm Share, Inc. “Because of this donation, more than 1,000 families were able to enjoy a complete Thanksgiving dinner.”
The Thanksgiving Drive is one of the initiatives of the company’s CARE program that joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of building dreams, enhancing lives in all of the communities in which it builds.
