David Weekley Homes Hold Blood Drive to Benefit San Antonio Community

San Antonio, TX (October 27, 2021): David Weekley Homes team members in the San Antonio area showed how much they care with 30 participants signing up to donate blood during a recent blood drive to benefit the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center.

The event was held on Monday, October 18, at the New Home Center, located at 3424 Paesanos Parkway in San Antonio. And, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, David Weekley Homes team members set up a breast cancer awareness recovery tent for donors to enjoy treats and refreshments.

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center successfully received 30 donations, which can potentially save the lives of 90 patients in need. Homeowners, buyers, friends and San Antonio residents were all encouraged to donate.

“Donating blood allows me to help those truly in need,” said Nick Handel, land acquisition manager in San Antonio for David Weekley Homes. “Though I may never have the opportunity to meet the person I’m helping, it’s a wonderful feeling to know I’m able to have such a positive impact on someone else’s life by taking a few minutes out of my day.”

One donation can save up to three adult lives, while a three-teaspoon donation can save a baby’s life. Blood donations to the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center supply 67 hospitals in 43 South Texas counties.

“We’re reminded daily that thousands of Texans need blood each year,” said Peggy Wood, purchasing coordinator for David Weekley Homes in San Antonio. “Being one of the most common blood types, I know my blood mainly goes to patients battling cancer, related blood conditions, transplants, surgeries and trauma emergencies. Knowing I could be saving the life of someone makes the donations a no-brainer for me.”

The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in all the communities in which it builds.
