DAVID WEEKLEY HOMES HONORED WITH FOOD DRIVE PARTNER AWARD BY SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK
Charlotte, NC (January 22, 2015): Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina presented David Weekley Homes with a Food Drive Partner Award at their 2014 Annual Partner Appreciation Luncheon. Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held home builder has partnered with the food bank for eight years to collect money and frozen turkeys to benefit those in need during Thanksgiving.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina honored partners in all areas of food bank operations at their annual luncheon. David Weekley Homes was honored for their continued dedication in feeding thousands of families in the Charlotte area.
“We are proud to honor David Weekley Homes this year with the Food Drive Partner Award,” said Kay Carter, executive director for Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. “For the past several years, they have sponsored a Turkey Drive as part of Harris Teeter’s Harvest Feast Marathon. The drive has gotten bigger and better every year and since they first started, recently donating over 2,000 turkeys to help families in need have a special holiday meal.”
In its eighth year, David Weekley’s Annual Turkey Drive provided nearly $20,000 in donations and more than 460 turkeys. The monetary donations allowed the food bank to purchase more than 2,000 additional turkeys to provide the main meal for less fortunate families over Thanksgiving.
“We already know we build in some amazing communities in Charlotte, but we’re humbled every year at the incredible generosity of our homeowners, our team members and our builder partners with their donations to our Turkey Drive to help Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina care for those in need,” said Mark Gibbs, division president for David Weekley Homes.
