DAVID WEEKLEY HOMES KICKS OFF HARVEST FEAST WITH EIGHTH ANNUAL TURKEY DRIVE
Charlotte, NC (October 7, 2014) – David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held home builder, is hosting its Eighth Annual Turkey Drive to help feed those in need this holiday season through Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
On Wednesday, November 5, David Weekley Homes will be collecting frozen turkeys and monetary donations during their turkey drive event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Weekley’s turkey drive kicks off the annual Harvest Feast, one of Charlotte’s largest food donation efforts and will feature a chili cook-off and complimentary barbecue.
Chili cook-off judging is open to all attendees and will take place from 12 to 1 p.m.
All turkeys and money donated will be given to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, the largest hunger relief charity in the surrounding area. The food bank strives to use education, advocacy and partnerships to eliminate hunger by the solicitation and distribution of food. In the Metrolina area, 18.4% of the population lives in poverty, including almost 221,000 children and seniors. To assist those in need, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina supplies a network of almost 600 non-profit agencies in 19 counties with food and essential grocery products.
Those interested in making a frozen turkey or monetary donation can drop off at the Weekley Homes Division Office, located at 11430 N. Community House Rd. Suite 275, Charlotte, NC 28277. Also, stay for food, games and fun!
For each turkey donation collected, David Weekley Homes will donate $15 directly to Second Harvest Food Bank. Last year, the Turkey Drive had its best year to date, with monetary and turkey donations equivalent to more than 1,000 turkeys. These turkeys go to local Charlotte families in need, who can enjoy the holiday in the comfort of their own homes.
