DAVID WEEKLEY HOMES RANKS #10 ON BEST COMPANIES FOR VETERANS LIST

Houston, TX (November 11, 2015): On Veteran’s Day, David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held home builder, is proud to be named to the inaugural “Best Companies for Veterans” list through a joint survey by Monster and Military.com.

To compile this first-time list, Monster and Military.com assembled a panel of five veteran hiring experts for a list of company nominations. Based on that list, Monster reached out to each nominee to determine the percentage of veterans hired in 2015, the percentage of veterans in the company’s total workforce, retention rate from 2014 veteran hires, recruitment plans for hiring veterans in 2016, and onboarding, development and retention programs.

“Transitioning military personnel are a great fit at David Weekley Homes,” said Robert Hefner, vice president of Human Resources for David Weekley Homes. “From their outstanding skills to their leadership capabilities, we have a need for these veterans’ expertise and believe in dedicating the appropriate resources and knowledge to finding and retaining those who have served our country.”

Of Weekley’s more than 1,400 current team members, 4 percent have served in the U.S. military, and 7 percent of new hires in 2015 were veterans. As David Weekley Homes continues to grow and expand, the company’s goal for 2016 is to remain the same or increase the percentage of the planned 450 new hires to be former service members.

“Through our partnership with Orion International and their Military Talent Program, we have established a recruiting program to assist with some of our veteran hiring efforts, which has been very successful in sourcing veteran talent,” Hefner said.

Once hired, David Weekley Homes has developed additional programs to ensure an easier transition into a post-military career and to retaining veteran hires.

“Our veteran team members go through the same onboarding and training that all of our team members go through, however we do aim to pair them specifically with another veteran as their mentor,” Hefner said. “We also survey them more frequently through Orion International to determine how well these processes fit their expectations.”

Of all the veterans hired in 2014, 73 percent remain with the company to this day, Hefner said.

“David Weekley Homes knew I had no previous home building skills, yet they hired and trained me, and a year and a half later, I found the career I was looking for,” said Ron Ellison, Senior Master Sergeant with nearly 21 years in the Air Force, and currently a builder with David Weekley Homes in Tampa.
