David Weekley Homes Team Members Build Beds for Bridgepoint Church

Tampa, FL (June 7, 2018): David Weekley Homes recently partnered with 18 local nonprofit organizations across the country through the company’s CARE Build Month projects.

In Tampa and Sarasota, the project benefitted Building Beds, a local ministry of BridgePoint Church created to ensure that every child in our community has their own bed to sleep in at night. Approximately 55 Weekley team members and their families joined together to build, assemble and paint 300 beds for families who lacked the financial resources and are unable to afford the cost of a bed, bedding and other basic needs.

“Even with the large amount of volunteers we've had at 'build days' in the past, we've never been able to complete 300 full bed sets in one day,” said Melanie Benner, missions coordinator at BridgePoint Church. “Thank you so much to the David Weekley Homes volunteers for your time, donations, and interest in our mission to provide beds for kids in our county that do not have one of their own to sleep in."

This project benefitted 300 children by providing a bed frame, bedding, pillow, mattress, toiletries, toys, night lights, and pajamas. The project included donations of more than $11,000 in lumber, bedding and toiletries, as well as a monetary donation of $12,500 for the purchase or construction of future beds.

“This year’s goal to build 300 beds was ambitious – tripled from what we accomplished last year – but thanks to the hard work and effort made by our team members, we were able to knock it out and leave a lasting, positive impression on the children of Tampa and St. Petersburg,” said Zach Tedder, community manager in training with David Weekley Homes.

The project was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members, homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
