David Weekley Homes Team Members Build Ramps for the Texas Ramp Project

Dallas, TX (June 7, 2018): David Weekley Homes recently partnered with 18 local nonprofit organizations across the country through the company’s CARE Build Month projects.

In Dallas, the project benefitted The Texas Ramp Project, which builds wheelchair ramps for disabled or elderly people who can’t afford to buy one. Approximately 175 Weekley team members from the company’s Dallas division joined together with family and friends to construct 18 ramps throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex.

“Texas Ramp Project is proud to partner with David Weekley Homes for a third year. Your volunteer and financial support have provided families and their caretakers the freedom to leave their homes more easily and independently,” said Gary Stopani, board member and Dallas regional coordinator for The Texas Ramp Project. “In the past three years, David Weekley Homes has built 80 ramps – this represents approximately four months’ effort and has helped us to manage our client backlog.”

This volunteer effort will benefit approximately 18 families and the caretakers, spouses and family who assist in transporting the homeowners on a daily basis. The project included donations of more than $10,000 in lumber from community partners.

“We were given the opportunity to replace an existing ramp in east Fort Worth that was rotting and unable to accommodate the homeowners,” said Felix Chen, lead builder for David Weekley Homes in Dallas. “Through team work and dedication, we were able to replace the 44-foot ramp and provide easy access for this deserving family. This was a wonderful experience and worthwhile project that touched the lives of everyone involved.”

The project was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members, homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
