David Weekley Homes Team Members Build Wheelchair Ramps

Orlando, FL (July 10, 2017): David Weekley Homes recently partnered with 18 local nonprofit organizations across the country through the company’s CARE Build Month projects.

In Orlando, the project benefitted The Center for Independent Living in Central Florida, an organization that has directly impacted more than 26,000 lives in the past 10 years by providing resources and accessibility options for people with disabilities. Approximately 70 Weekley team members from the company’s Orlando division joined with family members, vendors and homeowners to build six ramps for families in need.

“When living with a mobility impairment, small obstacles such as steps can become insurmountable hurdles,” said Liz Howe, Executive Director of The Center for Independent Living in Central Florida. “Thanks to the efforts of the David Weekley Homes CARE volunteers, The Center for Independent Living in Central Florida has been able to bring safety and accessibility into the lives of these families. The impact of these home modifications reaches well beyond families they serve, affecting the community at large by removing barriers to community engagement, employment and essential services.”

This project benefited deserving families by providing a ramp for clients, which will help them be able to leave their homes without assistance. The project included donations of more than $15,000 in materials and tools, as well as 740 volunteer hours.

“It was so fun to come together as a team with Sales Consultants, Builders and managers to work side by side and accomplish something,” said Shane Richins, Builder for David Weekley Homes.

The project was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members, homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
