DAVID WEEKLEY TEAM MEMBERS PARTNER WITH THE TEXAS RAMP PROJECT

Houston, TX (June 15, 2016): David Weekley Homes recently partnered with The Texas Ramp Project, an organization that has built more than 10,000 wheelchair ramps since 2006 for elderly and disabled clients. Approximately 60 Weekley team members from the David Weekley corporate office joined together with three team members from Sherwin Williams to build six ramps for families with medical needs who lack the financial resources.

“Working with David Weekley Homes was a great experience. Each person was so excited to be involved in the details of building the ramps,” said Rich Gutenkunst, Texas Ramp Project Coordinator. “When the client comes out to try the ramp for the first time it becomes such an exciting experience. That’s when you realize how the ramp will change this person’s life.”

This project benefited six families by providing a ramp for clients, which will help them be able to leave their homes without assistance. The project included donations of more than $12,000 in materials and tools as well as 360 volunteer hours. In addition, more than $2,600 was allocated for the purchase or construction of a workshop that will be used to construct ramp components for future jobs.

“I was proud to be a part of a company that was directly impacting people’s lives in a positive way,” said Sal Maida, a Production Designer with David Weekley Homes. “The best part was meeting the woman we built the ramp for because she was so happy and thankful.”

The project was an  initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members with homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
