David Weekley Homes Offers Designs To Suit Americans' Tastes And Lifestyles
by David Weekley Homes
Red, white and blue may be colors best associated with the American dream, but neutral colors are the current craze in interior and exterior home design. For the past 12 weeks, David Weekley Homes has been building a new home that reflects the tastes and lifestyles of consumers for the NBC "Today" show's "Today Builds a House" segment. The end result is a snapshot of American family life in the 21st century.
Approximately 100,000 viewers voted online each week to choose their favorite features, including the floorplan, exterior color, and kitchen and bathroom designs. The tallied votes quickly revealed that Americans want a home designed with calming, neutral colors and plenty of room to accommodate a growing family. "We hold regular focus groups for current and prospective new home buyers to get honest feedback on each aspect of our homes," said David Weekley, chairman of David Weekley Homes. "The vast majority of homebuyers want their homes to be warm and inviting, and that is exactly what the 'Today' show home represents."
The winning floorplan provides room to grow with four bedrooms, a FlexSpaceTMarea, open kitchen and family room and a large lanai and pool. At the request of viewers, one bedroom has been converted to a home office to accommodate telecommuters and a second bedroom will be utilized for visiting guests.
Throughout the 12 weeks, voters consistently chose options that created a look of uniformity and simplicity throughout the home. The finished home sports bathroom floors lined with ceramic tile, sinks and bathtubs adorned with traditional faucets, and maple cabinetry and wood floors in the kitchen. "Consumers are spending more time at home and they want to make the most out of their environments through design and furnishings," says Weekley. "Most people tire easily of bold and bright colors and, therefore, lean toward neutral tones that never go out of style."
