FAMILIES BENEFIT FROM DAVID WEEKLEY HOMES THANKSGIVING DRIVE

Team members collect more than 100,000 pounds of food for the holiday

Charlotte, NC (December 8, 2015): David Weekley Homes hosted a company-wide Thanksgiving Drive and collected more than 100,000 pounds of turkey and nonperishable items.

For the ninth straight year in Charlotte, local team members hosted the Thanksgiving Drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, a nonprofit organization that collects and distributes food to people struggling with hunger.

The Charlotte team collected monetary donations and food that equated to more than 47,000 pounds of food during the two-week drive, which also included assistance from fellow home builder, Nest Homes, as well as more than 100 homeowners and trade partners. Charlotte team members delivered the food items to the organization to distribute to families in time for the holiday.

“Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina is so grateful for our friends at David Weekley Homes,” said Lisa Marie Nisely, Community Development Coordinator for Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. “For the past nine years, the David Weekley Homes team and their vendors have come together to support the food bank and our mission to end hunger in the Metrolina region. This year's drive was no exception. Between the turkeys and funds collected, the team raised the equivalent of 47,336 pounds of food, plus The David Weekley Family Foundation made a special donation of $6,500 to help us purchase two badly-needed pallet jacks for our warehouse!

“Their support will make all the difference to feed seniors, children, men and women throughout our regions,” Nisely continued. “There are no words to convey the importance of this kindness, and we are very lucky to have David Weekley Homes on our team fighting hunger!”

The David Weekley Family Foundation also donated $6,500, which will allow Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina to purchase an additional two jack pallets.

The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in all the communities in which it builds. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations throughout the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
