Bridgeland Wins Awards for Development, Landscape Design

(Cypress, TX – Feb. 25, 2012) - Bridgeland has begun the year with additions to its awards cabinet, including both local and national recognition.
The Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) named Bridgeland Developer of the Year 2011 during its 71st Anniversary Extravaganza held recently.
The evening’s awards program recognized top GHBA members. Bridgeland has been active with the organization’s Developers Council and Benefit Homes Project, donating three homesites for the program, which — with the recent sale of the home in Bridgeland — has raised more than $7 million for Houston charities.
“Houston has one of the strongest and most active housing markets in the nation, so it’s really an honor to be recognized locally for superior development,” said Peter Houghton, vice president of Bridgeland.
Plus, in early February, Bridgeland won a Gold Award for Best Landscape Design in The Nationals 2012 competition sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
The program’s judges recognized Bridgeland for its efforts to preserve and enhance its natural landscape, including building aesthetically pleasing waterways rather than unsightly drainage ditches. Bridgeland frequently uses native grasses and other plants to ensure a thriving landscape that requires minimal water and maintenance.
Thinking long-term, the development also has converted more than 1,800 acres into a tree farm, planting more than 250,000 seedlings this year. As they mature, they will be moved to more developed areas of Bridgeland. Approximately 350,000 seedlings will be planted next year on an additional 1,300 acres.
“The national landscape award is meaningful because protecting our natural surroundings and incorporating our landscape into Bridgeland’s amenity palette has been a priority since development began,” Houghton said.
The GHBA honor is Bridgeland’s second Developer of the Year award for 2011. The community also received the award from the Texas Association of Builders. Bridgeland was a 2011 Community of the Year Silver Award winner in the National Association of Home Builders’ The Nationals competition and was a Gold Award winner for Community of the Year in 2009.
An 11,400-acre master-planned community in Northwest Houston, Bridgeland celebrated five years of development in 2011. The community will one day include more than 20,000 homes for 65,000 residents. For more information, visit www.bridgeland.com.
