David Weekley Homes Honored For Best New Construction In A Historic Neighborhood

by David Weekley Homes

Preservation Dallas recently bestowed David Weekley Homes with the organization's annual award for the best example of New Construction in a Historic Neighborhood. David Weekley Homes was recognized for its new single-family homes built in Munger Place Historic District. The homes built in this community offer the charm of yesteryear with the efficiency and convenience of today. Each home features large front porches and wood-framed windows consistent with the homes built in the early 1900s as well as granite or Corian countertops, stainless steel appliances and custom cabinetry.

"It is important to be mindful of the period architecture when building in a historic area to ensure the homes reflect the spirit of the neighborhood's past," stated David Weekley, chairman of David Weekley Homes. "For example, in the early 1900s Americans would take evening strolls and visit with neighbors sitting on their porches. So it was important to us that the new homes built in Munger Place also have porches to re-create this culture." Weekley added, "Building in Munger Place is a unique opportunity to demonstrate the versatility in era-style building."

Nominees for the award were submitted by both realtors and Homeowners. According to Peggy Walker, a realtor with Ebby Halliday who also holds the title of Preservation Dallas Historic House Specialist, "David Weekley Homes is building exactly what my clients are seeking. The home is a nice product while keeping the ambiance of the neighborhood. David Weekley Homes has added a tremendous value to the neighborhood."
