Spirituality In The Workplace

by David Weekley Homes

When David Weekley founded David Weekley Homes 25 years ago, he asked himself all of these questions. Despite realizing that an expression of faith or belief in a higher power is often frowned upon by the business world, Mr. Weekley instituted ways to bring spirituality to the workplace each day and has witnessed firsthand the positive impact that spirituality can have in the workplace.

Some of the ways David Weekley Homes helps foster spirituality are:

  • Employs chaplains in all cities where the company has offices. One of the chaplains' responsibilities is to visit the office twice a week, to offer a helping hand or encouraging word. Whether to talk about a difficult business decision or pray for a friend or family member, the chaplains serve as a partner in every office. Employees are able to call upon the chaplain's services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • Work facilities provide an environment to encourage meditation and time with nature. For instance, the corporate office includes a secluded courtyard complete with umbrellas and chairs, a fish pond, bird feeders, flowers and lots of trees to help promote a healthy mental lifestyle.
  • The company's employee newsletter includes a special column, "Chaplain's Corner."

David Weekley Homes is the third largest privately-owned, single-family Home Builder in the U.S. For more information about David Weekley Homes, visit the company's Web site at www.davidweekleyhomes.com.
