STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM DAVID WEEKLEY HOMES BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

Charlotte, NC (September 16, 2015): David Weekley Homes hosted a Back to School Supply Drive benefiting Classroom Central, an organization that seeks to help students living in poverty effectively learn by collecting and distributing free school supplies.

"When a company such as David Weekley Homes, its employees and homeowners step forward to supply a child with basic school tools, a pencil and notebook, items so many of us take for granted, it gives that child a sense of community,” said Karen Price, director of development for Classroom Central. “It says to the student and their teacher that we, your neighbors, are here for you. That encouragement is often the first step on the path to success."

Approximately 4,200 items, including $900 to purchase two pallets of school supplies, were collected during the two-week drive to help benefit the more than 100,000 children Classroom Central serves across 200 schools in six school districts. After collecting the donations, Team Members spent 18 hours sorting the supplies and delivering them to the organization to ensure the supplies would be distributed in time for the students to begin school with the tools needed to be successful.

"The Charlotte Division has been thrilled to collect school supplies for Classroom Central,” said April Rotenberry, a project coordinator with David Weekley Homes. “In the hustle and bustle of back to school excitement, it is humbling and gratifying that we can help provide tools to many children who are then excited about learning."

The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners Team Members with homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by the Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
