Students Benefit from David Weekley Homes Back to School Supply Drive

Charlotte, NC (August 18, 2016): David Weekley Homes hosted its second annual companywide Back to School Supply Drive in 22 cities across the country. In Charlotte, large, pink erasers were collected for “Erase the Need” drive through the Kids Café program of Second Harvest Food Bank, an organization that provides basic needs and feeds hungry children in the Charlotte area.

“The David Weekley Homes Charlotte team did it again! They asked how they could help the children served by the food bank and delivered us quite a special gift,” said Kay Carter, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. “Thanks to this amazing team, children in some of our neediest neighborhoods will have school supplies to start the new year and 20 more children will be sponsored in our backpack program at one of the high-poverty schools we serve this year. The Backpack Program provides a backpack full of nutritious, ready-to-eat or easy-to-prepare foods sent home on weekends and holidays when school and Kids Café meals are not available. We can’t thank this team enough for their commitment to giving back to the community and supporting our mission.”

More than 2,000 large, pink erasers were collected during the drive, which will benefit 500 children. After collecting the donations, the 54 team members delivered the erasers to the organization to ensure the supplies would be distributed in time for the students to begin school with the tools needed to be successful.

“Our Charlotte School Supply Drive was able to take a list of specific needs from our partner, Second Harvest Food Bank, and focus those to one big need that we could center a memorable and effective fundraiser on: erasers,” said Grace Goldman, a design services team member with David Weekley Homes. “There's nothing more exciting than getting to experience such a fulfilling opportunity with the people we work with each and every day to change and continuously impact lives."

The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members with homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofit organizations to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.

David Weekley Homes team members, homeowners and vendor partners collected more than 2,000 large, pink erasers to help 500 children through the Kids Café Program of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
