David Weekley Homes To Build A House On "Today"

by David Weekley Homes

Last summer, more than 1.3 million votes were cast to help plan a wedding on NBC News' "Today." Beginning tomorrow morning, Americans will again have a chance to make history with local new Home Builder David Weekley Homes and "Today" - but this time they will be helping to build a house.

David Weekley Homes, one of the nation's leading Home Builders, in conjunction with "Today" and OurHouse.com, will build a home in 12 weeks in Tampa, Florida, where the first-ever "Today Builds A House" project will take place.

Every Wednesday, "Today" will focus on a different aspect of the home - from the overall style and layout of the structure to design elements of the rooms, landscaping, color scheme, and more. At the end of each segment, four choices will be provided for the viewers to vote on exactly how they want that week's element of the home to look. Immediately following the broadcast, viewers can log on to the "Today" show website at today.msnbc.com to cast their vote. Voting will conclude the following Tuesday at noon ET. Viewers will be updated on the next show about what choice won, and also get to see how the winning element is built by following the progress every week. Local builder, David Weekley Homes, has been chosen as the builder for the project.

"This truly is an exciting opportunity," commented David Weekley, chairman of David Weekley Homes. "Building a home on national television in 12 weeks with the viewers choosing the design of the home is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We're proud to be partnering with "Today" and Ourhouse.com on this special project."

Viewers can log on to today.msnbc.com throughout the series for additional information about the project and home building in general.

David Weekley will appear as a guest on the April 4 segment to provide tips and important information regarding the homebuilding process. "Mr. Fix-It" Lou Manfredini of OurHouse.com and a contributor to "Today" will appear each week to give helpful homebuilding hints, and guide viewers through the entire process of building a house. He also will provide a weekly column on home improvements and host weekly chats about the project. There also will be a video gallery from the series, with "behind-the-scenes" footage that will chronicle the project's progress.

When the project is complete, the house will be auctioned off on the internet, with all proceeds from the sale to be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
